THE PIE HOLE

This is a pie. Not the "everyday, generic store bought" pie, but a real pie stuffed to the brim with fresh fruit. Freshly made by hand each day, these pies are a force to be reckoned with. Although this hidden gem is difficult to find as they operate in a barn, there is more difficulty in letting it go after finding it.

With every slice towering at extreme heights, one slice may lead you into a food coma.

As a smaller brand with only one location, The Pie Hole likely does not have much time to delegate efforts towards maintaining a high quality marketing strategy. As any small business with a limited amount of employees, a majority of the work load must be placed into creating the product for consumers. For one simple suggestion, I believe they need to invest in a camera that will produce images that draw viewers in. From there, the utilization of hashtags that will create attention towards their profile will be beneficial. In terms of social media, I believe that they need to understand which channels will most likely drive consumers into the door. Currently, they are on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. In my opinion, they are too spread out. In order to optimize their potential and maintain a consistent posting schedule, they need to eliminate their Twitter and Snapchat. These two platforms are redundant, as everything they can post on there, could simply be posted on Facebook and Instagram. With a higher population of potential consumers being aged 25 and above, Facebook and Instagram are the channels that their population is likely to be found on.

Overall, this quaint store hidden in downtown Roswell is a fantastic place for a quick sweet treat, or a go-to for a dessert for a dinner party due to their extensive menu of delicious pies.

  1. I'm a sucker for pies, so naturally I gravitated toward your post. I completely agree with your comment about The Pie Hole spreading themselves too thin with all of their social media channels. I follow restaurants on Instagram, and of course I'll like/share a picture of a pie on Facebook, but I've never heard of a restaurant making a Snapchat for their customers. It's actually a bit odd to me because yes people take pictures of their food, but I would never follow a restaurant on Snapchat like I would follow a celebrity. I agree, totally different consumer-base. Besides this, these pies look amazing, and they've gained a new Instagram follower for sure.

  2. Interesting. I would love to try this place! I definitely agree that they should hone their marketing in on fewer channels. It doesn't make much of a difference if you're just trying to say as much as you can in as many places as you can. This can lead to diminishing in quality of content. Personally, I think Instagram is a better place to advertise food anyway. Investing in a good camera to post high-quality, mouth-watering pictures to Instagram should serve them well.

  3. I definitely agree! Since we started doing these blog posts, I have noticed just how repetitive company's social sites tend to get. It is one thing if you are utilizing your different platforms in different, unique ways that actually create more meaning to your marketing strategy. But, to just try to get yourself out there on as many different platforms as possible, is very noticeable, and distracting to your overall end goal. Honestly, following a company on the site that is most beneficial and relevant to what I need, is always the way that I choose. For example, I follow my favorite clothing brands on Instagram, because I just want to quickly see pictures of cute items looking great on other people and a quick caption that gives me the items' names so I can find it easily. I don't need to follow them on Facebook and Snapchat too. Lol. Instagram would serve food companies well!

  4. I have never been there, but I feel like I need to now! This was a really great post and I think that your suggestions provide some great insight for a small company. I think that small companies who do not have a digital marketing strategist to run their social can get overwhelmed and try to take on all of the ones that they know of. They think that they will reach more people by posting on all of the platforms that exist, but that reach will not be positive if the content is not a good quality. The camera suggestion is spot on as well because photos of their pies are what will draw the attention of the customer online. I think another thing they could do is to jump on the video food trend that is booming on Instagram and Facebook. People like to see how things are made in short videos, so utilizing that tend might be an option for them as well. Overall, I think you have some great insights here!

  5. Great analysis on the company! Man does this pie look good, and I agree getting some great pictures of it will definitely lure customers in. I also agree with your view on their social media outreach, sometimes being on every platform isn't beneficial. They should focus on one or two and really hone in there. Instagram would definitely be a great move for them because people want to see pictures of delicious food, I know I do. Loved your post!

  6. I have the biggest sweet tooth in the world, so I am highly surprised that I have not come across this place before! I am very intrigued by the points you brought up in this article. Sometimes I feel that firms don't understand the impact social media can have on their business. In today's world, sometimes you need a little extra push besides the incredible product that you're selling. I think your suggestions are spot on. It's crazy how far a nice camera can go...I know I personally gravitate towards great quality photos. Thanks for the share!

  7. This blog made me just crave pie! It is currently lunchtime and my stomach is growling but now I am so tempted to drive to Roswell to get this pie. I loved how detailed you described this pie I felt like I could taste it. It is interesting that you think they are "too spread out." Some companies think they need to be on all social media platforms in order to get their business on the map. That can be true but unless you do not tend to them properly, they can sometimes hurt your small business more than help. The Pie Hole needs to focus on 1-2 platforms (maybe Instagram and Facebook) and keep their followers and customers updated on their latest recipes and deals going on throughout the week. If they keep their social media updated, this will keep the clients loyal and customers coming back for more.

  8. I really like your perspective on how to better manage their social media, I wonder if it would be good for them to better utilize a management platform like hootsuite to make their social media easier to manage or to better centralize their message. I really loved your description of their product because it made me really want to drive to roswell and find that pie.

  9. Wow my mouth was watering while reading this! I loved that you found a "hidden gem" not most people have never heard of. In my opinion those types of bakeries or restaurants are usually the best. I completely agree with you that they seem to be trying to cover too many bases with their social media marketing. I don't believe that have enough reach or content for a Snapchat account to be useful, and Twitter does not seem like the right fit either for them. Instagram would be the platform for most of their marketing because its centered around artistically taken pictures, and these pies photograph so well!

  10. It is interesting to see in a world where everything is connected by social media that too much social media could be a curse. I have never heard of a restaurant having a Snapchat, but I love the idea of it. I know I would follow the Snapchat since I love pies. I could see me going through my stories and seeing it and thinking "boy could I use some pie." I think they should back off of social media ,but maybe capitalize some off of snapchat.

  11. I can understand how such a small brand can be oversaturated online, especially when it comes to food products. They need to be more focused on one effort, especially for local competition. I know several good pie companies near there, and many have excellent locations next to their target market. These small companies, especially if in a lesser known location, are better off this way. I'll also have to try that place.

  12. Food! I must admit, it looks pretty good. I may have to Venture out that way and try it out. As I read your post, all I could think about was what all they serve and how soon can I get it? It looks great! It is a shame that small businesses struggle to spread their hard work to others. I think it's great you took the time to write something quick and to the point about them. Thanks for the information.

  13. Yummy!!! I can't believe I haven't heard of this place yet! Their pies look delicious! I'm usually not a big fan of sweets, but this looks lie something I could try. I do agree with you that they should narrow down their social media platforms especially since they are a small business and they could allocate their time and resources better by just focusing on a few platforms. I also feel like a lot of people do not use Twitter anymore especially not to follow restaurants. I don't know about anyone else, but I just use Snapchat with my friends and I don't follow any restaurants or anything like that on Snapchat so I would think it's more beneficial to focus on Facebook and Instagram. Everyone loves to follow food accounts on Instagram and look at pictures of food so I think that Instagram would be the most advantageous to use for them.

  14. You bring up such a good point about them needing to consolidate their social media. I think a lot of new companies think that they need to blast their brand on all social media platforms, when in reality focusing on only a few can be more effective. Especially since most of their target market probably isn't very active on Twitter or Snapchat, they could save themselves a lot of time and resources simply working on developing communities of customers on Facebook and Instagram.

  15. I too have a soft spot for pie. I've been to downtown Roswell many times so I'm surprised I've never seen this place. I guess the fact that I haven't seen it makes your suggestions even more important. If the store front isn't bringing in new customers, they need to advertise their product. As a small business the cheapest and most effective way to bring in new customers is to create a strong social media presence. I totally agree with your suggestion. Instagram is a great visual way to display their product. I think it would definitely be the best platform for them to grow their business.

  16. This place sounds super yummy. Really thought it was an interesting point about how its not necessary to be on all social media platforms, but to instead focus on the ones that are most useful to the company. Also 100% agree in the importance of getting a high quality camera to capture the food. The more appealing it looks the more likely people are going to visit the restaurant.

  17. This blog was not only awesome because of the amazing pie pictures and descriptions but also because of your well thought out suggestions for their social media strategies. I think you're definitely right in suggesting that Pie Hole eliminates their twitter and snapchat accounts--with only millennial followers they aren't getting much exposure and are wasting valuable time and energy. I totally agree that getting a quality camera and posting intriguing content on their Facebook and Instagram is the way to go.

  18. Love this article because I love the Pie Hole!! Their pies are delicious and I agree with your suggestions about them getting a camera. They need to get a high quality camera in order to capture their food and show it off to their customers. I also like how you suggested for them to get rid of their snapchat and twitter accounts because of their lack of older followers. Great post!

  19. This is a great blog post! I have been craving an apple pie for weeks! This pie looks absolutely delicious. I haven't had the time to make a pie by hand, so I have had to settle for store bought apple treats (I'm a sucker for apple fritters). You also made some great suggestions for the business to improve their social media presence.

  20. I agree, Instagram should be a main focus of a company that makes food. Great quality photos of their pies could drive people to their stores. They could also make it where you can order by just showing a photo of the pie.

  21. This had my mouth watering! Great hook. Instagram is a great focus for a food company especially one like this company who seems to devote extra effort into the quality of its product. Maybe adding a hashtag to its menu would allow users to generate a collective menu.

  22. I think you are so right about investing in a good camera. When you're a business that creates beautiful products for customers, you have to capitalize on that. Instagram would be a great way for them to reach the largest number of people while showing them content they actually care about. An Instagram hashtag would successfully get their consumers involved with the brand.
